Live at IBMS Congress: Day 2

Today, the hall doors opened to reveal the host of industry leaders and laboratory professionals exhibiting their technologies and services. Our Sonic Healthcare UK team was also ready to network and show delegates why we are the employer of choice.

On our stand, the interactive information screens were a great talking point, giving visitors the opportunity to explore our extensive laboratory network. This has been updated since our last visit to Congress, with the onboarding of colleagues from Whittington Hospital and the Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care System. The map showcased a short video and images of each lab, its structure, and case studies of staff who have progressed with the company over the years.

Our staff also had their time to shine today. Cellular Pathology Manager, David Allen (below), gave a talk on the current, evolving, and emerging applications of predicative biomarker testing.

Three colleagues presented their scientific research on the first day of the poster competition. Deputy Head of Department, Sabina McCann, presented her posters on ‘The Role of CYP2C19 Genetic Testing in Clopidogrel Therapy’and ‘Caplacizumab Resistance in Immune Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (TTP)’. Specialist Biomedical Scientist, Arti Kirit, presented on ‘In vitro evaluation of the effect of anticoagulation on thrombin generation in haemophilia A’, and Paulo Leite, who conducted his research with Sonic Healthcare UK, presented on ‘Malaria Screening in the Haematology laboratory – QBC or gold standard?’.

Today’s winner of the daily prize draw for an Amazon voucher was picked, with congratulations going to Smita Patel! Stay tuned for the announcement of the second winner tomorrow.

We started strong and look forward to meeting many more delegates who will be at the exhibition over the next two days.
